HEROES - Season 1 - Episode 2 "Don't Look Back"

Okay, so I think I became solid in my belief that this show is delightful when Hiro transports himself to New York accidentally! Hiro is my favorite character so far because he's the most genuinely excited about his "gifts" he just plops right into the roll of being a hero (go figure)! And my appreciation for his character is only FURTHER solidified when he's running away from the magazine salesman (that he stole a comic he was a character in) and there's some kind of hindi mash up version of the Magnum PI theme playing behind him! (way to go music director! you just brough two parts of my life into one moment of television. rediculous comic book joy & Magnum!)

I've also noticed that this show has quite a diverse cast. And for once it doesn't feel like I'm looking at the "token" anything. There are no "token" black people, no "token" Asian people. If there's an Asian character there's a myriad of things, people, etc that belong with that character and the writing of this show shamelessly seems to be introducing these characters as being integrated into each others life without any hesitation. At first I was a little bit concerned though because it did seem like the only black people in the show were VERY light skinned, but I see that that's not necessarily the intent - because after this episode more characters are introduced. I also love that there's an even mixture of Caucasian men with women of color & the other way around!

There's no need to hide it though. It is clear that though the writers and producers were Pro-Interracial they were not QUITE ready to give up a "pretty" cast. So there are definately a couple of WB worthy cookie cutter blond girls and boyish but handsome brown haired Caucasian men! Everyone else seems a little more real - but lets just go ahead and give em a pat on the back still for diversity! They're on the right path!

Meanwhile there's another craaaazy blond lurking in the midst. So far I'm actually kind of intrigued by her hidden bad assery and the fact that she has this mysteriously beautiful biracial son! So we'll see how this one plays out!

HEROES - Season 1 - Episode 1 "Genesis"

Feel free to view the trailer for the pilot trailer here...

Here's where it starts...I had trouble sleeping right (like half of all the geeks that I know) so I stay up to fill my brain with all sorts of things. I wrote some new poetry, I updated my personal blog...I wikipedia'd until my brain felt tired...so then I decided to finger my way thorough netflix streaming movies. I had been watching Law & Order: SVU when I couldn't sleep, but alas, I finished the last episode of the seventh season...and the newest seasons aren't up for streaming yet. I stumbled upon Heroes and thought, "didn't my roommate mention that that the foxy guy who played Spock was in that show?"...click...stream....drool....except Zachary Quinto doesn't appear in the first episode at all...but the show ROCKS!

First episode certainly sets this world up pretty well. It's a little slower than some shows - So far I'm a big fan...BIG FAN...of Hiro's character! We get a sense that a couple of people have some extra-ordinary abilities - good...good. I'm not sure how I feel about the young Indian genetics scientist...well let me take that back...I'm not sure how I feel about Indians speaking all English IN INDIA...don't care if it is a TV show...we're smart enough to read sub titles people! Plus...anybody notice that the Japanese characters speak in Japanese...but the Indian characters speak in English....that's problematic.

But alas...that's all for my pilot episode musings! Please visit again when I blog about EPISODE TWO ::insert suspenseful music here!::

HEROES - Season 1 trailer & preview

For your viewing pleasure I have embeded the trailer for the entire first season of Heroes. Watch it if you wish. A few tiny spoilers but nothing too major!

Now, I haven't seen very many episodes of this show yet. But I will tell you that I am very excited. I don't know how I managed to make it THIS LONG without seeing the show (except that my netflix is backed up by 264 qued discs!) My smarter friends should have had an intervention with me and just said the show is three things *geeky *filmic & *like X-Men...but current! I would have been there!

Instead...I waited until my roommate hap hazardly mentions that the guy who plays Spock in the new Star Trek film, has a roll in Heros (instant incentive!). Alas...here I am...pumped up!!! Please coment on these posts if you have any additional thoughts.

EVERYBODY NEEDS A HERO blog manifesto

Though this blog has been inspired by my recent addiction to the show "Heroes" (yeah yeah, I know I'm like two years behind - that's how I roll!). I will not only blog about this show episode by episode, but in fact I will additionally add commentary about comic books, sociological dialogs, other tv shows, geeky happenings, etc - all via the inspiration of this show.

"Heroes" is a testament to the fact that, friends, we all still love the idea of super heros, mutants, cyborgs, etc. The best part is that this show is like X-Men...but updated! No more costumes or guises! These are people who have powers and they're just tryin to figure out how to survive life while helping a few people out along the way!

May we all try to pay it forward as well as some of these mutating humanoids do!
